Mactrap separators and our range of KESSEL passive grease separators are hydromechanically designed for maximum fat, oil and grease (FOG) retention based on inflow. This is referred to internationally as NS or L/sec. 

MACTRAP and KESSEL Passive traps range from NS.5 to NS 35 with above and below ground options.

EN 1825 and G13 require a grease separator to consist of grease separation chamber/s and integrated sludge trap at the bottom. FOG is guided into the separator by a pacifying pipe which allows the waste waters to be slowly and evenly distributed.

To reduce costs, space required and excavation issues it is important to size the correct option based on actual inflow rate. This inflow rate is the international standard applicable to fats and oil separation time vs passive volume and is the recommended maximum inflow rate for greasy water.

ASSESSING INFLOW RATE
Customers should assess 75% of the total volume of all sources of FOG likely to enter the Grease separator and divide this volume by 1 minute (0r 60) to calculate the L/second.  (Contact MACTRAP for assistance if required).  In 8 -10 hr per day operations it may be possible to be divided by 2 min (120).

As a guide the following parameters apply to MACTRAP tanks and indicate the amount of sludge and FOG accumulation manageable before cleaning out is required to avoid dysfunction due to overload. Default operation is >98% efficiency when operated in accordance with specifications.
